About Cable Mills: Development Program
The development of Cable Mills will occur in three phases:
1. Rehabilitation of the three existing mill buildings (61 homes)
2. Creation of new-construction river-front townhomes and duplexes (21 homes)
3. Development of a 30,000 SF parcel on the southern end of the site fronting Water Street (uses to be determined).
Phase 1: Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation of Mill Buildings |
The majority of the homes to be built at Cable Mills will be located in the three original mill buildings that remain on site. Characterized by expansive steel and timber framed ceilings, exposed brick and massive windows, these historic structures will be converted into 61 spacious and distinctive lofts, flats and townhouses.
Construction of Phase 1 is planned to begin in the Spring of 2009, with an estimated 12-14 month construction period. Homes are expected to become ready for occupancy by the Summer of 2010. |

Phase 2: New Construction Townhomes and Riverfront Duplexes |
The riverfront portion of the site, formerly occupied by over 100,000 square feet of non-descript, low-lying industrial outbuildings, has been cleared to make way for a riverwalk, parking, and a future phase of new construction riverfront townhomes and cottages, carefully sited and designed to compliment the aesthetics of the neighboring historic buildings. These homes will be located in a townhouse building of 5 homes, and in 8 duplex-style cottages along the Green River consisting of 16 homes total.
Construction of Phase 2 will begin after the construction start of the rehabilitation of the mill buildings. Exact timing of the start of construction for these homes is to be determined. |

Phase 3: Complementary Commercial Building |
An area of the Cable Mills site along Water Street is currently zoned for commercial use. Uses for this portion of the site are being explored that will complement the residential community at Cable Mills, while at the same time reconnecting the southern end of Water Street to the fabric of the village business district of Williamstown.
Phase 3 of Cable Mills is still in planning; development program and timing are to be determined. |
